Funny moments from this morning’s commute:

As we passed Cambridge Common (a restaurant/bar with a fantastic beer selection and remarkably delicious macaroni & cheese), Charlotte piped up from the back seat, “I can eat mac and cheese?” Apparently this was not the first time she shared that association. I guess we go there pretty often.
A little while later, as we walked to day care, she spotted a very fluffy black dog that we see often, and announced, “There’s a doggie! That’s a kitty cat doggie.” I think because it’s fluffy and black like Basil?

Two years old

Charlotte is two!

Candles were lit, silly hats were worn, and songs were sung:

Key stats from her checkup:

35″ tall (~81st percentile)
26 lbs 4.5 ounces (~50th percentile)
52cm head circumference (on a chart of her own, right up there with her big sister)
Blood was drawn, and she sat quietly for the whole thing—not even a whimper. Wow!

ETA: Perhaps in celebration, Charlotte pooped on the potty at school today!

Pledge of Allegiance, and an Astute Observation

Shortly after we got home, Henrietta told us that they’re learning the Pledge of Allegiance at school:
“I don’t remember the words yet. But I remember the pose!”

at which point she walked out to the hall, where we have an old American flag that belonged to Ben’s great-aunt Barb, and put her hand over her heart:

Her great-grandfather would be proud.

Getting ready for bed, talking about Day 2 of Kindergarten, Henrietta observed:

“Mommy, my new Kindergarten is like Camp Bulldog [the child care provided at Yale reunions].”

“How’s that?”

“Well, I don’t know the teacher or kids that well. But everybody’s very nice!”
