A big first

Today’s report from day care: Charlotte peed on the potty!
Shortly after we got home, Henrietta told us that they’re learning the Pledge of Allegiance at school:
“I don’t remember the words yet. But I remember the pose!”
at which point she walked out to the hall, where we have an old American flag that belonged to Ben’s great-aunt Barb, and put her hand over her heart:
Her great-grandfather would be proud.
Getting ready for bed, talking about Day 2 of Kindergarten, Henrietta observed:
“Mommy, my new Kindergarten is like Camp Bulldog [the child care provided at Yale reunions].”
“How’s that?”
“Well, I don’t know the teacher or kids that well. But everybody’s very nice!”
From Henrietta this evening:
Just after meeting with the music school director, a discussion of musical instruments ensues, including this gem: “Well, the cello is good for the blues.”
Henrietta turns 5 today!
Doubled up the checkups this morning:
Henrietta:
– 43 1/2″ tall (72nd percentile)
– 39 lb 12.8 oz (52nd percentile)
Charlotte:
– 33″ tall (82nd percentile)
– 24 lb 3 oz (46th percentile)
– 51cm head circumference (99.95th percentile)
Charlotte, on her 6th ear infection since December, also has a referral to an ENT. 😐
Charlotte is 1 1/2!
She’s a busy, happy, sociable little girl. She has more words than I can list, including “Neema” for Grandmas and Grandpas (kind of interchangeable at this point), and all her friends at Harvard Yard. She loves (and requests) songs. She greets people (“Hi!”) and bids them farewell, complete with blowing kisses. And she loves her big sister—when Henrietta spent an extra day down in Rhode Island after the long holiday weekend, she got up the next morning asking “Where Etta? Where Etta?”
“Mommy, can you see inside Daddy’s brain?”
“No, honey, I can’t. Why?”
“Because you knew what Daddy was going to say! Stop looking into Daddy’s head and let Daddy think things!”
From Charlotte’s 15-month checkup:
Other fun stuff she’s been up to:
And this morning, I finally took care of her egregious baby mullet.
